Living By Design: Designing A Perfect Living Space

Hi, I’m Alberta Garcia, founder of Living By Design, an interior design store specializing in high-quality flooring, cabinets, countertops, and tile. I launched this business in 2022 with the goal of helping people transform their homes with finishes that reflect their unique taste, lifestyle, and story.

My journey into interiors began in a slightly unexpected way. While studying Management Information Systems at Western Washington University, I worked for a local countertop fabrication company. What started as a college job quickly turned into a passion — I discovered how much I loved helping clients find the perfect stone for their homes. That hands-on experience, paired with my background in business and systems, inspired me to build a business rooted in design, service, and meaningful connection.

At Living By Design, I approach every project with deep care. I believe that everyone — no matter their budget — deserves a luxury experience when remodeling their kitchen or bath. That means curated selections, attentive listening, and a process that feels just as enjoyable as the final result. My clients’ homes are personal, and I never take that trust lightly.

My work is guided by the values that mean the most to me: integrity, creativity, accountability, gratitude, and family. Whether I’m helping with a full renovation or a small update, these values are woven into every step. I feel incredibly lucky to be part of the transformation that turns a house into a home.

When I’m not working, I’m spending time with my little family. Becoming a mother has brought a whole new joy to my life — every moment with my daughter is precious. I also love hiking the beautiful trails of Whatcom County, discovering new local coffee shops, and cooking for loved ones — it’s one of my favorite ways to show care and connection.

Hello, I’m Carlos Nunez, co-founder of Living By Design, an interior store specializing in high-quality flooring, cabinets, countertops, and tile. I have built a distinguished career in construction, with a focus on stone countertops. With my background as a skilled laser measuring technician, I bring a meticulous, detail-oriented approach to every project, ensuring precision and quality in all of my work.

At Living By Design, I’m responsible for taking precise measurements, streamlining documentation, and optimizing system processes to deliver exceptional results for our clients. Outside of work, I’m passionate about weightlifting and cherish spending quality time with my family, including my beloved dog, Rio. During the summer, I especially enjoy hiking to the top of Washington’s beautiful mountains.

Rio is our beloved Golden Doodle and the heart of our team at Living by Design. With his friendly demeanor, wagging tail, and a constant readiness for cuddles, Rio plays an important role as our unofficial staff stress relief dog — and an all-around best friend to everyone who walks through our doors.

Known for his gentle nature and love of treats, Rio greets clients like old friends and never misses a chance to be pet. Whether he’s lounging in the office or making the rounds to boost morale, Rio brings calm, joy, and a touch of fur-covered comfort to our workdays.

He might not answer emails, but his presence reminds us all to slow down, breathe, and enjoy the little moments — especially the ones that involve belly rubs.
